United Airlines bookings: changes, cancellations and refunds with Touriyo

Flexible booking page: 'Whether or not you have to pay a fee to change your flight depends on where you're flying and the type of ticket. If you're flying on an Economy, Economy Plus® or a premium cabin ticket, your change fees are waived for the following: Domestic flights within the U.S., Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands; Flights between the U.S. and Mexico; Flights between the U.S. and the Caribbean; International flights originating in the U.S. If you're flying on a Basic Economy ticket, you can't change your flight unless you upgrade to Economy or a premium cabin first. International flights that don't originate in the U.S. can be changed but change fees still apply.'. FAQ: 'You can change your flight as many times as you want without change fees. But, you will have to pay any fare differences that apply each time you change.' 'If your new flight costs less, you will receive a travel credit for the fare difference.' Award travel: 'all fees were removed for canceling and changing award flights.' Group reservations made through the United Reservation Group Desk 'are subject to change fees'. Same-day flight changes: 'Up to $75 per traveler, depending on Premier® status' (free for Premier members in many cases); standby list free. Basic Economy page: 'The only way to make changes to a Basic Economy trip is to cancel your flights and book new ones.' Ticketing with an agent: $25 phone / $30 City Ticket Office / $50 airport.

Change/cancel page: 'Once confirmed, we will give you the options for a travel credit or a refund.' Future flight credits are issued when you cancel a non-refundable ticket or change to a cheaper flight; 'In most cases, travel credits expire one year after the date they were issued' (future flight credit = 'travel by' date; travel certificate = 'book by' date); future flight credits are normally non-transferable (same traveler). Basic Economy: 'If you cancel within 24 hours of purchase, you'll get a full refund. After 24 hours, you'll get a partial travel credit.' Refund policy page: 'If your ticket qualifies, your refund will be credited back to the original form of payment... Credit card refunds will be processed within 7 business days of the request. All other refunds will be processed within 20 business days.' Involuntary: refund if you don't travel due to a significant schedule change (Domestic 3hr / International 6hr) or cancellation. Unplanned events (death, jury duty, certain illnesses, military orders) can qualify for a refund within one year of purchase. Colombia point of sale: 'Right of Withdrawal: You can cancel your flight up to 24 hours before the scheduled departure time and still receive a refund. But, we may keep 10% of the fare... Right of Retraction: If you buy a ticket through our Customer Care team or on our website, you can cancel your reservation within 5 days and receive a refund. But, you must cancel your flight before the scheduled departure time.' Booking and service fees are refunded only within the 24-hour window.

Refundable tickets: Refundable (and Economy Plus/premium flexible) tickets: refund to original form of payment on request via My Trips or the refund form (https://www.united.com/en/us/refunds); credit card within 7 business days, other forms within 20 business days. 'Refunds are subject to final approval by our refund team.' Lost paper ticket: $150 processing fee, up to 90 days.

Credits and vouchers: Two credit types: Future flight credit (issued on cancellation or downgrade to cheaper flight; usable for United, United Express and partner-operated flights bought on united.com/app and some extras like Economy Plus at booking; normally non-transferable; 'travel by' date, in most cases one year from issue) and Travel certificate / electronic travel certificate (compensation; 'book by' date one year; can be used for anyone; not transferable by sale). 'What if I have a travel credit issued for a flight originally booked through a travel agency? You can still use your credit, but you'll need to do it through the travel agency you used to book the original flight.'

United calls it the '24-hour booking policy'.: 'With our 24-hour booking policy you can cancel your reservation within 24-hours of buying your ticket for a full refund without paying a fee. But there are a few rules: You must book your flight at least one week in advance. You must cancel within 24 hours of the time you made your reservation. You must cancel all flights for all passengers on the reservation. Partial cancels are not eligible for this policy. If you have a Basic Economy ticket or booked your flight using Money + Miles, you can't make changes but you can cancel for a full refund.' Refund policy page: 'Cancel a flight in My Trips within 24 hours of booking it directly with United for a full refund.' Booking and service fees are refunded only if you cancel within 24 hours.

Carry-on: Economy and above: 1 carry-on (9 x 14 x 22 in / 23 x 35 x 56 cm incl. handle and wheels, must fit the overhead bin) + 1 personal item (9 x 10 x 17 in / 22 x 25 x 43 cm). Basic Economy: personal item only on most trips, 'You can't bring a carry-on bag unless you're flying to South America, across the Atlantic or across the Pacific'; a non-compliant personal item or carry-on is checked at the gate for $75 (tickets on/after April 3, 2026). Premier members and eligible MileagePlus cardmembers keep a free carry-on in Basic Economy.

Checked bags: Standard 50 lb (23 kg) per bag, 70 lb (32 kg) for Premier Platinum/1K and premium cabins; 62 in linear. Fees vary by route and Premier/card status; see the bag fee calculator on the page.

Fees: 'Bag fees for domestic flights, short flights between the U.S. and Latin America, and flights between the U.S. and Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico increased for tickets purchased on or after April 3, 2026. Bag fees for many flights between the U.S. and Africa, Asia, Europe and South America increased for tickets purchased on or after May 12, 2026.' Basic Economy page: 'For tickets purchased on or after April 3, 2026, bag fees start at $45 if you prepay, $50 in the lobby and $75 at the gate' (before April 3, 2026: $35 / $40 / $65). Future flight credits are non-transferable and must be used by the same traveler.
