Japan Airlines bookings: changes, cancellations and refunds with Touriyo

International fares for flights departing on or after April 2024. Hawaii: Special - change 'Permitted with a charge', JAL Mahalo - permitted, Flex - permitted. North and Latin America: Special Saver - change 'Not permitted', Semi-Flex - permitted, Flex - permitted. All other destinations (Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa, Southeast and South Asia, East Asia, Oceania, Guam): Special - 'Permitted with a charge', Semi-Flex - permitted, Flex - permitted. 'When itinerary changes result in any fare, tax, or surcharge differences, the difference will be collected or refunded.' Online 'Rebook' on Manage booking requires an e-ticket bought on the JAL website and paid by credit card, no paid seat services and no unseated infant; before travel up to 72 hours before the first flight, after travel started up to 24 hours before the original flight.

Applies to JAL international tickets and EMDs (numbers beginning 131). Where to apply: the JAL website (Manage Bookings; online 'Refund form for International Tickets' if you cannot proceed), the JAL Contact Center for International Flights or city counter of the country of purchase ('refund at a country outside the country of purchase may not be possible due to currency restrictions'; tickets originating in India - the India contact centre), or the travel agent where you bought the ticket. Application period: before travel - within one year and 30 days from ticket issue; after travel started - within one year and 30 days from the start date; on the website until 3 hours before the next flight departure. Refundable amount: before travel, the paid fare minus the cancellation charge set in the fare rule plus refundable taxes/fees; after travel started, paid fare minus the fare of used segments plus unused refundable taxes; non-refundable fares return only unused refundable taxes; the Ticket Service Fee is not refundable. Credit-card refunds go back to the same card through the card company and 'may take approximately 2 months'. Involuntary changes (delay, cancellation) have their own pages and 'Support for Delayed or Canceled'.

Refundable tickets: Special (and Special Saver) fares non-refundable (only unused refundable taxes); Semi-Flex and JAL Mahalo refundable with a charge; Flex refundable. Ticket Service Fee never refundable.

Customer Service Plan full refund within 24 hours: only for tickets purchased on the JAL Americas website (revenue tickets; PayPal and award tickets follow a different procedure) and only if the reservation was made at least one week before departure; 'tickets purchased outside the Americas (both revenue and award tickets) are not eligible'; tickets bought through a travel agent - contact the agent.

Carry-on: Two items in total: one personal belonging (handbag, shopping bag; fits under the seat) plus one additional bag with length + width + height within 115 cm (W 55 x H 40 x D 25 cm / 22 x 16 x 10 in); combined weight of both items not more than 10 kg (22 lb).

Checked bags: First and Business Class: 3 pieces up to 32 kg each. Premium Economy and Economy: 2 pieces up to 23 kg each. Each piece total outside dimensions (L+W+H) at most 203 cm including wheels and handles. Infant in own seat follows the cabin allowance; infant without seat 1 piece (same weight limit as the accompanying adult); stroller, carriage or child seat free. JMB FLY ON / JGC / oneworld elite members get extra pieces on JAL Group flights. Itineraries to/from the U.S. and Canada: whose baggage rules apply is decided under U.S. and Canadian law and applies to the whole itinerary.

Fees: Excess baggage charges are published per route. Maximum checked bags per person = free allowance + 7 (First/Business max 10, Premium Economy/Economy max 9); each piece max 45 kg; charges payable in CAD in Canada and in USD (converted to local currency) outside Canada and Japan.

FAQ 'Can I change the name on my ticket, transfer it, or exchange seats?': 'The airline ticket is valid only for the individual whose reservation it is, and cannot be transferred to a third party or have the name changed... If the passenger changes, please make a new reservation in the name of the passenger who will be boarding.' Registered passport data can be checked or changed after booking (separate FAQ).

FAQ: 'The itinerary order printed on the ticket cannot be changed. If you fail to use the ticket in the order of the itinerary or if there are unused segments, you may not be allowed to board subsequent segments due to fare rules' - see International Conditions of Carriage (Passenger and Baggage) Article 4(D).

Japan Airlines' loyalty program is JAL Mileage Bank (JMB; FLY ON status; JAL Global Club JGC). Miles and status are managed with Japan Airlines, not with Touriyo.

Fare lineup applying to departures from April 2024 (JAL Mahalo from tickets issued 5 Jun 2024); notice on Asia/Oceania pages: from Wed 28 Oct 2026 mileage inquiries by email only, Chinese-language phone service ends 24 Nov 2026; carry-on rule 'two items, 10 kg total' sourced to the Scheduled Airlines Association of Japan.

• JL's 24-hour refund applies only to tickets bought on JAL's Americas site (reservation at least one week before departure). Checked on 18 October 2026.

FAQ: 'For tickets purchased through travel agencies or other sources besides JAL, please contact the point of purchase directly' for changes; refunds of agency tickets are applied for with 'the travel agent where you purchased the ticket'; the 24-hour full refund for agency purchases must be requested from the agent. Online 'Rebook' only works for e-tickets purchased on JAL's own website with a credit card. JAL Contact Center changes of tickets bought elsewhere carry a Ticket Service Fee (USD 50 in the U.S.).
