Austrian Airlines bookings: changes, cancellations and refunds with Touriyo

Change the date or time of the flight online for one or more passengers in the booking ('Manage booking'); a route change goes through the chat assistant 'Maria' or the Service Center. By fare (Economy, Premium Economy and Business tables): Light, Comfort and Comfort Plus = rebooking 'for a fee'; Comfort Green and Flex = rebooking included ('Yes'). Footnote: 'there are exceptions here - for example on flights from the USA'; more detailed fare conditions are shown during booking on austrian.com. No change-fee amounts are published. A ticket service charge for booking and ticketing may apply and is shown on the ticket (it depends on the country, the booking channel - online, call centre or travel agency - and the payment method; starting point examples: Austria up to EUR 5, Portugal EUR 5, Switzerland up to CHF 30, Slovakia EUR 10, Spain EUR 5); it is non-refundable if you do not board for reasons you are responsible for. Ticket service fee for bookings made via the call centre, city or airport office: United States of America USD 20 / USD 20; United Kingdom GBP 15 / GBP 15; Spain EUR 27 Economy Class and EUR 37 Business Class / EUR 47 Economy Class and EUR 67 Business Class; Austria EUR 45 / EUR 45; India, Colombia and Mexico are not in that table.

Online you can cancel your booking and request a refund, but 'you can only cancel entire bookings' (help center topic 'Request cancellation and/or refund'; the chat assistant Maria can also cancel and start the refund). Refund by fare (all cabins): Light and Comfort = No; Comfort Plus and Comfort Green = Partly refundable; Flex = Yes. Detailed conditions are shown during booking. Forms exist for refund enquiries and for refund of seat reservations. EU261: refund of the full ticket if delayed 5 hours or more and you do not travel, or if the flight is cancelled. General Terms and Conditions of Carriage, Art. 9.2: refund of the total price depends on the fare selected - there are fares for which refunds are excluded, fares with a reimbursement fee, and fares with refundability included; unused taxes, fees and levies are in any case refundable; for denied boarding, cancellation or delay the Regulation (EC) 261/2004 claims apply (Art. 9.1). Tickets are not transferable (Art. 3.1.2); the conditions for rebooking or refund depend on the fare chosen (Art. 3.1.3). Austrian's refund enquiry page says: if you bought the ticket online at austrian.com or at an Austrian Airlines Office the refund is made automatically after cancelling; 'for tickets booked via a travel agency or any other third-party portal, please get in touch with them'.

Refundable tickets: Light, Comfort: not refundable. Comfort Plus, Comfort Green: partly refundable. Flex: refundable (same labels in Economy, Premium Economy and Business). 'You will find more detailed information during booking on austrian.com.'

Carry-on: Carry-on baggage max 8 kg per piece: 1 piece in Economy and Premium Economy, 2 pieces in Business (all fare variants). The carry-on dimensions page was not reachable.

Checked bags: Max 158 cm (height + width + length) and 23 kg per bag (32 kg in Business). Economy: Light none (can be added from EUR 60), Comfort / Comfort Plus / Comfort Green / Flex 1 bag. Premium Economy: Light 1, other fares 2. Business: Light 1, other fares 2. Larger, heavier or additional bags are excess baggage.

Fees: Handling fee when a bag turns out at the airport to exceed the free allowance, by country of issue: Austria EUR 15, Spain EUR 15, India EUR 15, United Kingdom GBP 10, Canada CAD 20, Netherlands EUR 10, Switzerland EUR 15, Italy EUR 10; the excess-baggage price itself is shown when you add a bag. Economy Light: bag from EUR 60.

Help center topic 'Name change after booking': 'Contact our Service Center to request a name correction on your booking. Please note that only minor corrections can be done, such as fixing misspellings.' Group bookings: free of charge before ticket issue; after ticket issue CHF 110 / EUR 100 (only up to 72 hours before departure).

General Terms and Conditions of Carriage, Art. 3.2: the ticket is only valid for the sequence of carriage shown on it; if carriage is not used on all legs or not in the sequence shown, with otherwise unchanged travel data, Austrian recalculates the fare for the route actually flown on the fare of the booking day - a higher fare is charged as a difference (and carriage depends on paying it), a lower fare is refunded; for consumers residing in Austria there is no recalculation if plans simply change or when prevented by force majeure, illness or another reason not their fault (3.2.3). Art. 3.2.2 also says that with a refundable ticket and no segment flown you may request a refund per the fare conditions (which forfeits carriage). No separate no-show penalty amount is published. The ticket service charge is non-refundable if you do not board for reasons you are responsible for.

Compensation EUR 250 for flights of 1,500 km or less; EUR 400 for flights within the EU over 1,500 km and all other flights 1,500-3,500 km; EUR 600 for 3,500 km or more, if arrival is delayed by more than 3 hours (not caused by extraordinary circumstances), the flight is cancelled (with the 2-week / 7-day re-routing exceptions) or boarding is denied; reduced by 50% when re-routed within the limits. Care (meals, hotel, calls) after a 2 h (up to 1,500 km), 3 h (1,500-3,500 km) or 4 h (over 3,500 km) delay; refund of the ticket for delays of 5 h or more if you do not travel. Downgrading: 30% / 50% / 75% of the ticket price. Complaints may go to the Austrian Agency for Passenger Rights (APF).

What Austrian states (second look, 18-oct-2026): the refund enquiry page says 'If you purchased your ticket online at austrian.com or at a Austrian Airlines Office, the refund will be made automatically and there is no need for any further action. For tickets booked via a travel agency or any other third-party portal, please get in touch with them.' The Terms of Carriage say tickets are not transferable (3.1.2) and that the conditions for rebooking or refund depend on the fare (3.1.3). The 'Service fees' page says the ticket service charge depends on the booking channel (online, call centre or travel agencies) and is shown on the ticket; the passenger-rights page says that when booking through an EU travel agency the passenger is entitled to neutral and correct information from the reservation system, including the airline actually operating the flight. No other agency-specific rule was found.
