American Airlines bookings: changes, cancellations and refunds with Touriyo

Fees page: 'Voluntary change to ticket before day of travel' = $0 for Main Cabin, Premium Economy, Business and First 'for travel beginning in North or South America'; 'Up to $400 if different point of origin'; 'Fee varies depending on type of ticket purchased'. A difference in fare may apply and 'Travel must be completed within 1 year of the original ticket date.' Basic Economy: 'Basic Economy tickets cannot be changed after 24 hours.*... *Changes for trips that begin in Europe are allowed with a fee (excludes Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania).' Same-day flight change: 'Starting at $60 unless you qualify for other exceptions' (Basic Economy and Main Cabin), $0 in Business/First; only within/between the U.S., Puerto Rico, USVI, Canada, Caribbean and JFK to LHR, confirmable within 24 hours of the desired flight; same-day standby is free for all customers. Service charge: 'Assistance by Reservations $50, applies for voluntary trip changes not initially created by American Airlines Reservations or on aa.com'; airport ticket counter $35 for travel within the U.S./Canada.

Conditions of carriage: 'We don't refund cash for non-refundable tickets. But if you or the person who bought your ticket cancels your trip before departure, we will cancel the ticket and issue a travel credit that you can use toward future travel on American.' Non-refundable tickets are refunded to the original form of payment if American cancels the flight, makes a schedule change of more than 4 hours, on death of passenger/companion or military orders (paperwork required); FAQ adds schedule change of 3+ h domestic / 4+ h international, or 90+ min within 72 h of departure. Refundable tickets: full amount if unused, value of unused travel if partially used; credit-card refunds within 7 business days, other forms within 20 days. Basic Economy after 24 h: no refund; AAdvantage members may cancel on aa.com/app for Trip Credit minus a fee, $99 (48 contiguous states), $129 (Hawaii/Alaska; U.S. to PR, USVI, Caribbean excl. DR, Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Guyana, Peru, Canada), $199 (U.S. to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Europe, Middle East, India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia, NZ); only for tickets booked in the U.S. directly with American, for U.S. residents; 'Fare amount must be greater than the fee.' Refundable tickets: Refundable ticket: 'The full amount of the ticket if travel hasn't started; The value of the unused travel if the ticket is partially used.' Refund to original credit card within 7 business days; other forms of payment within 20 days of receiving all paperwork. 'Refunds will be made only to the person who paid.' Taxes: eligible destination-specific taxes refundable on request.

Credits and vouchers: Trip Credit (issued for canceled tickets etc.): valid until 11:59 p.m. CT on the date listed; for Trip Credit issued on/after April 2, 2024, AAdvantage members get 12 months when cancelling on aa.com/app with their number in the reservation, non-members 6 months; redeemable on aa.com or via Reservations only, 'not redeemable through any other channels, including airport ticket counters or travel agencies'; can pay flights and online bags, not seats. Flight Credit (unused tickets): same passenger only, 'Travel must begin within 1 year of the original ticket issue date'; on aa.com only for flights within the U.S., PR and USVI. Travel Voucher: 1 year from date issued. 5 years applies for credits from DOT-qualifying delays/cancellations. 'To receive Trip Credit, your original ticket must be canceled before the departure of the first flight (or the ticket loses any remaining value...).'

Customer service FAQ: 'You have 24 hours from the time you first buy your ticket for a refund if you booked at least 7 days before departure. The 24-hour refund policy applies to all ticket types, but you have to cancel the trip to get a refund. If you bought your ticket through a travel agency or another booking source, contact them for a refund. Reservations booked as part of group block do not qualify for the 24-hour refund.' Refund is to the original form of payment 'less: Sale-imposed non-refundable taxes; Service charge for booking through Reservations'. Conditions of carriage: 'Some countries have different rules about refunds, and if so, we will follow those rules.'

Carry-on: 1 personal item (max 18 x 14 x 8 in / 45 x 35 x 20 cm, under the seat) + 1 carry-on bag (max 22 x 14 x 9 in / 56 x 36 x 23 cm incl. handles and wheels, must fit the sizer) in all cabins, including Basic Economy. Soft garment bag up to 51 in / 130 cm total.

Checked bags: Standard allowance per bag: 62 in / 158 cm (L+W+H) and 50 lb / 23 kg (70 lb / 32 kg for free bags in First/Business and to/from Australia/NZ). Bag fees paid at the airport are non-refundable; charged per person each direction.

Conditions of carriage: 'A ticket is non-transferrable, it can't be used by or refunded to any other passenger.' Only the Group & Meeting Travel page mentions '1 free name change per ticket' for groups of 10+.

Customer service plan ('Travel itinerary policy'): 'tickets are priced and sold based on the itinerary, and not as individual flight segments... if you do not show up for one segment of your itinerary, we may cancel your reservations on all remaining flight segments.' Customer-service FAQ: 'If you cancel a trip that has already begun, the ticket loses any remaining value and cannot be used for future travel.' Travel credit terms: the original ticket 'must be canceled before the departure of the first flight (or the ticket loses any remaining value and cannot be used for future travel)'. Boarding ends 15 minutes before departure.
