Air India bookings: changes, cancellations and refunds with Touriyo

Change = modification of itinerary, date, destination or flight number; done online via Manage Booking depending on fare type. Fees (INR unless stated) from the official penalty tables. Domestic India: Economy Basic 3,500; Economy Value 3,500; Economy Classic 300 if >3 days before departure / 1,000 if 0-3 days; Economy Flex 250; Premium Economy Value 3,500; Premium Economy Flex free; Business Value free if >3 days / 5,000 if 0-3 days; Business Flex free; First free. USA/Canada: Economy Value $165 / CAD 240 / INR 15,000; Classic $110 / CAD 160 / INR 10,000; Flex free; Premium Economy Value $110; Business Value $110; all Flex and First free; 'no show and change fee' $300 (Value/Classic), $75 (Eco Flex), $150 (PE Flex), $320 (Biz Value), $210 (Biz Flex/First). Fare difference always applies; if the new fare is lower the difference is not refunded. Self-service re-accommodation after an Air India cancellation is free (20 options within -3 h/+72 h). Maharaja Club award tickets: Platinum free up to 2 h before departure; Gold free up to D-7; Silver up to D-30; otherwise 25%.

Tickets issued after 25 May 2022 are refunded via Manage Booking (website/app); tickets bought at an Air India city/airport office must be refunded at the same office; tickets from a travel agent or online portal: 'please get in touch with the respective agent's office for a refund'. Cancellation fees as per the penalty tables (see change section; e.g. domestic Economy Value INR 5,000, Flex INR 999; USA/Canada Economy Value non-refundable - taxes only, Classic $275 / CAD 400). 'In compliance with CAR, Section 3-Air Transport Series M Part II Rev 2, dated 27 Feb 2019, the cancellation charges shall not be more than the basic fare, plus fuel surcharge.' For non-refundable cases tax is credited back to the source. A ticket can be refunded within two years from the date of issuance. Processing: 'up to 7 to 10 business days'; escalate via the customer support portal with the case ID if not received after 15-20 business days. Refund goes to the account used to pay. Partially used ticket: international - one-way fare deducted plus penalties; domestic - sector fare deducted plus penalties. If Air India cancels: refund via Manage Booking or free self-service re-accommodation. Downgrade refunds via support portal ('New Refund Request'). EU/UK 261 claims have their own online form.

Refundable tickets: Flex brands (Economy/Premium Economy/Business) refundable with INR 999 (or $11 / CAD 16) fee; Value and Classic carry fixed fees; Economy Value on USA/Canada, UK, EU and Japan routes is non-refundable (taxes only). First: free if >3 days before departure, small fee 0-3 days.

The request-refund page states (in the notes beneath the award-ticket table): 'India & US markets: Change or cancellations are permitted free of charge for up to 48 hours from the time of booking, provided the change or cancellation is done up to 7 days prior to the first leg of departure.' The page layout leaves it ambiguous whether this applies to all tickets or only to award tickets - treat as 48 h, India and US points of sale, 7+ days before departure.

Carry-on: One piece only (BCAS 'One Hand Baggage Rule', Circular 6/2000) for all classes and statuses: 7 kg / 15 lb in Economy and Premium Economy; 10 kg / 22 lb in First and Business; max 55 x 40 x 20 cm, total 115 cm / 45 in; plus one small personal item under the seat. Cabin bag up to 12 kg allowed only after paying excess hand baggage: USD 75 international / INR 3,000 domestic; above 12 kg must be checked.

Checked bags: Domestic (weight concept): Economy Value 15 kg, Classic 20 kg, Flex 25 kg; Premium Economy Value 15 kg, Flex 25 kg; Business Value 30 kg, Flex 40 kg; First 40 kg; FBA under 25 kg = 1 piece, 25 kg or more = 2 pieces; Economy Basic fare 15 kg (FAQ). International examples: USA/Canada, Europe, Japan/Korea, Israel (piece concept): Economy Value one piece up to 23 kg, Classic and Flex two pieces up to 23 kg each, Premium Economy two pieces up to 23 kg, Business and First two pieces up to 32 kg each. Gulf/Middle East: Economy Value 25 kg, Classic 30 kg, Flex 35 kg, Business 40/45 kg. Max single piece 32 kg / 70 lb network-wide; 158 cm / 62 in per piece (Economy both pieces combined 272 cm). Maharaja Club Gold/Platinum: +1 piece 23 kg (piece concept) or +20 kg; Silver +5 kg (weight concept). Infants: 10 kg one piece plus stroller.

Fees: Excess hand baggage USD 75 / INR 3,000.

Booking FAQ: 'We are here to help you fix your misspelt name on a flight booking. You can do any of the following: Call our customer care number; Raise a request on our customer support portal. Please note that charges may apply for requesting a name change.' Names must match the ID exactly; FNU/LNU rules for single-name passengers.

Request-refund page: 'No-show is when a passenger fails to change or cancel the booking 2 hours prior to the domestic and 4 hours prior to international departures.' Payment FAQ instead describes a 'two-hour no-show window' after departure during which you can still cancel/modify; within the no-show window only applicable taxes are refunded for every brand (Economy Value/Classic/Flex, Premium Economy, Business, First); after it, no refund. Korea routes: no-show fee 90% of base fare. 'No show and change' fees apply if you still want to fly (e.g. USA/Canada $300 Economy Value).

Air India's loyalty program is Maharaja Club (tiers Red, Silver, Gold, Platinum; Star Alliance). Miles and status are managed with Air India, not with Touriyo.

Air India states repeatedly that tickets issued by a travel agent or bought on a third-party website must be refunded and status-checked through that agent/website ('please reach out to your travel agent or visit the website to help initiate your refund'); tickets from Air India offices only at the same office. For skipped segments on agency tickets: 'please contact your travel agent or raise a request through the Air India Customer Support Portal'. Basic fares are sold only through Air India direct channels. Self-service re-accommodation requires a valid e-ticket and email on the PNR and max 9 passengers.
